Kanakidoya is one of the oldest Japanese confectionery shops, and is currently owned by a third generation confectioner. It is famous for Sasamaki Yokan (sweet bean jelly).
The owner goes to the mountain personally and harvests kuma bamboo leaves. He folds the leaves into triangle shapes and pours the liquid Yokan into them and lets them set. The light taste, fresh scent, and beautiful deeply-lined veins on the surface of the Yokan are pleasing to the senses as you place it in your mouth. There are packs with 10 Yokan for 1,450 yen, which makes a perfect gift. You can also get individual Yokan for 120 yen each. In addition, freshly-pounded Mochi and fluffy-textured Castella are sold.
